Quebec is different from the rest of Canada in three ways that shape a CRM: most homes are heated with electricity, customer communication is expected in French, and the province has its own private-sector privacy law. A Quebec HVAC CRM is built French-first, with equipment records suited to electric and heat pump homes and fields for tracking Hydro-Québec grants.
The Quebec market
Statistics Canada's 2023 data shows 70% of Quebec households heating primarily with electricity, with natural gas at 5% and wood at 4%. That puts baseboards, electric furnaces, electric boilers, heat pumps and wood or dual-energy systems at the centre of equipment records, rather than gas furnaces.
Montréal and its neighbours Laval and Longueuil form the biggest market, followed by Québec City and Lévis, then Gatineau, Sherbrooke and Saguenay. Plexes and older multi-unit buildings are common in Montréal and Québec City, so one owner may hold several units with separate equipment. Separate site records, as described in the CRM blueprint, are essential.
Seasonality
Heating runs for a long stretch of the year in Quebec, and longer still once you leave the St. Lawrence valley for the regions. Heat pump owners need maintenance reminders for both heating and cooling, and companies serving several regions should set reminder lead times per area. The maintenance reminders service handles both.
Regulators to know
The Régie du bâtiment du Québec tells homeowners to ask for a contractor's RBQ licence number, check it in the RBQ's online register and make sure it includes the subclasses required for the work. It also says the contractor's name on the contract should match the licence holder.
For a CRM, that suggests storing your licence number and subclasses in company settings so they appear correctly on estimates and contracts. We configure the fields; what you must display is a question for the RBQ. We don't give compliance advice.
Language: French-first templates
The OQLF states that consumers have the right to be informed and served in French, and points businesses to the regulation on the language of commerce and business in force since 2025-06-01.
In CRM terms:
- a language field on every customer, defaulting to French for Quebec sites;
- French versions of every reminder, follow-up and confirmation template, written properly rather than machine-translated;
- French labels on anything customers see, such as estimates and invoices.
Confirm your obligations with the OQLF or your own advisor.
Programs as of October 2026
- LogisVert. Hydro-Québec's LogisVert page lists $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8°C for ENERGY STAR certified cold-climate heat pumps, with a multi-unit bonus that can raise the amount for eligible wall-mounted units.
- Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, Quebec. The federal backgrounder of 2026-06-29 describes $243.5 million for about 25,000 low- and median-income households, covering measures such as heat pumps, windows, doors and smart thermostats.
What to track: heat pump capacity at -8°C and certification on each estimate, the program the customer intends to use, and application status. Confirm current terms with the administrator.
Privacy
Quebec has its own private-sector privacy law, which generally applies to businesses operating within the province. The Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec is the provincial body. A Quebec CRM should record consent, limit exports and set retention rules for customer data and recordings.
Writing French templates that work
Good French templates are short, natural and specific. A maintenance reminder might use placeholders such as [Prénom du client], [Type d'appareil] and [Date proposée], with a clear way to reply. Avoid machine-translated English; customers notice. Write each template once in French, then create the English version for customers who ask for it, not the other way round.
How we'd set up a Quebec HVAC CRM
- French-first templates and labels, with an English option where customers ask for it.
- Electric and heat pump equipment fields, including capacity ratings for grant calculations.
- RBQ details in company settings for estimates.
- Plex-ready sites with separate units.
- Bilingual territories for companies working across the Ottawa–Gatineau border.

Frequently asked questions
Do our CRM templates need to be in French?
For Quebec customers, plan on French-first templates. The OQLF says consumers have the right to be informed and served in French. We set up a language field and French templates; confirm your specific obligations with the OQLF or your own advisor.
Can you deliver training in French?
Training is remote and recorded. Ask about French-language delivery when you contact us, and the language of sessions and materials will be confirmed in your proposal.
Which privacy law applies to a Quebec HVAC company?
For businesses operating within Quebec, the province's own private-sector privacy law generally applies, while PIPEDA still applies where information crosses borders. The Commission d'accès à l'information is the provincial body.
